His friends were the best skiers on earth , too. One of them, Olav Bjaaland, smiled at him.

Bjaaland laughed . "Oh no , they can't go faster than me, " he said . "On snow, nothing can go faster than a good man on skis . "

They laughed, and sked happily down the white snow . ' This is like home , ' Bjaaland thought . 'But it's bigger than Norway, and better. '

Bjaaland didn't answer . He smiled , and skied happily away across the snow .
